Laptop Charging Help

Hi,

I've had my HP Pavilion dv2530ea laptop for about 2 years now and in the last month I've had problems with it only charging intermittently. I've tried changing the AC adapter, which has made no difference and the battery charges okay lasting over an hour (though the HP Battery Check program does say the power is weak and suggests replacing it). My laptop will charge fine for a week or so then all of a sudden won't charge at all and even when I remove the battery it doesn't power off the AC adapter. Does anyone have any suggestions of what the problem could be? Maybe a dodgy connection as it does feel a little bit loose? I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Battery Management programme and downloaded the latest BIOS. I don't particularly want to put it in for repair if it's something I can fix myself and I know most places charge extortionate amounts!

Thanks,
Laura

No you can wiggle the plug a little bit but the pin is quite solid!
  • ive had this before on laptops

although the pin is quite solid, the contact from the solder on the m/b to the pin can degrade (bad design usually) thus giving the impression the pin is fine.

could be battery problem. might just reached the end of its life given that its 2 yrs plus and the charge circuit is having issues with it.

what happens if you take battery off and just run it on power supply unit only. If it runs ok may not be a power supply unit fault

Take the battery out, run it on mains only. Wiggle the connector up and down and see if this affects the power?

If it does, then as above, its the connector itself. This will be a pricey repair as it requires a full strip down of the machine to get at, unless you know someone who is handy with a soldering iron and you can strip it yourself?

Oh that's not what I wanted to hear :( When it doesn't charge, if I take the battery out it won't power up from the AC adapter. When it does finally charge then if I wiggle the plug it does stop flicker between charging/not charging... If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your pin repaired? Was it a local shop? x

the firm i used it was collected, fixed and returned to me within 5 days, in the thread i linked to there is another firm who was cheaper as they didnt provide a box whereas the 1 i used they provided a box which made it slightly more expensive than the others linked to in the thread
