Vibration in new focus

A bit weird this, I can feel the steering wheel vibrating at all speeds, I also get a rattle/vibration from somewhere behind the radio panel.

It is bugging me and as I do lots of miles it cometimes gives me pins and needles in my hands.

It is a 58 plate focus 1.8 tdci with 16000 miles on it and has just had two new tyres on front and all wheels balanced (problem was there before tyres replaced)

I have had it from new so know the history.

I am going to the dealers with it in next day or so but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

My thoughts are that it is the engine not running smoothly or an engine mount ??

    Wheels not ballanced correctly.
    Loose wheel nut.
    Out of shape tyre.

You take it to kwitshit for some new tyres, shockers, wheel barings, mud flaps, exhaust, possibly brake pads too.

But luckily it's under warranty, so it'll be reet!
  • sounds like the wheels need balancing, my steering shudders at 70 odd

I am going back to the dealer, was looking for ideas.

It isnt the wheel balance, they have been done twice in last week, wheel nuts are not loose.

I thought a tyre may be out of shape but have been told they arent after the wheels were balanced.
  • It may well be a deformed tyre only obvious with the weight of the car on it. Often the only way to find such things is to have a road force balance done (ie the old way - balance the wheel while still on the car, with the weight of the car pressing down on it).

It could also be faulty bushings in the control arms, or similar.

What you need to do is go to the dealer and tell them "do not give me this back until this vibration is gone".

Good grief! Only 16000 miles on a set of front tyres. These would also be the original "premium" tyres too?
I'd personally be looking for some underlying reason for what is, in my opinion, premature wear.
A "58" will still be under warranty so yes, as above, get to dealers and demand it's sorted. Even if tyre wear is normal for model the vibration shouldn't be there. However, dealer might blame the new tyres! You don't say whether you've had the car from new. Has it been "kerbed" quite forcefully without you knowing?

16000 miles for a set of tyres these days isn't out of the ordinary, so I don't think there is an underlying reason for premature wear.

As with others, I'd say get the dealer to examine it thoroughly - same with the vibration on the radio / dashboard.
