Polished Concrete Wet Room

We are about to indulge in our downstairs wetroom and are thinking finishing it in a polished concrete fashion. Our friends have concrete worktops which look great. Most (humid) countries all have concrete floors, worktops, walls etc in concrete but not here. I have seen companies that charge a fortune for concrete woks but ultimately you can get it pre mixed for about £100 a tonne!

Are there any "special" concretes for these types of jobs think we can get a great look quite cheaply or am i missing something? I understand they'll need sanding etc.

ANy help/tips/pro's/cons would be great as there appears to be little about on this subject.

Thanks,

i bought my dad a book on making polish concrete worktops etc when he was doing his house build and wanted them - can't remember its name but there are plenty on amazon. All I remember was that it looked great but sounded very messy...I hasten to add me has quartz worktops and not concrete now!

    Thanks for your helpful comments.

I am aware of google but, as you do, i come on here for first hand advice. You could have just done the same when you wanted to find out how long a property had been on the market. Instead you came on here.

The google search produces lots of american companies, the companies that i have already alluded to and mostly crap!

The info i gave showed i already have a fair knowledge so was trying to fill in the gaps.

Probably 95% of the questions asked on here could be gotten fairly easily from google but then we wouldn't have this fantastic forum would we. People come on here as they get good honest "first hand" advice.

Perhaps you should go and google "forum" in wikipedia to understand its meaning.
  • Sorry I don't know but would be really interested to find out too. I saw this once on Grand Designs or some show like that and was amazed at how stunning it looked. It wasn't that expensive either - from what I remember they just used normal concrete and dyed it to look like sandstone with little flecks of glitter added. The company that did it was in Norfolk though so too far from me.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, hence the sticky out tongue and grin smilies! I apologise if this wasn't obvious!

I was alluding to your comment that there appears to be little about on the subject!

PS. you can select on google so it only brings up UK webpages.
