MSE News: Fully comp car insurance cheaper than third party!

I also found that fully comp was significantly cheaper than TPF+T the last couple of times we renewed our car insurance - for both me and OH! OH's car is 10 years old and worth about £1,000, mine's slightly newer and worth about £3,000... the difference was at least a couple of hundred pounds for us both, which I found very strange! Not sure whether it would still be the same for a brand new car (although I don't know why anyone would insure a brand new car TPFT!). Was very surprised, and will definitely check both types when we do our insurance from now on!

Seems like boloney to me. As i've been paying insurance since i was 17 and am now 25 i can say that Fully Comp has only HINTED at becoming cheaper now that i have a car they'll allow me to insure fully Comp.
The insurance companies often wouldn't even offer me fully comp insurance on the old junk heap i was able to afford. That's with full no claims since i began driving. It's all very circumstancial.0 -

It's mainly age related. Someone under 25 is statistically a bigger risk for car accidents so it's cheaper for the insurance company to insure them TPFT.
Once you are over 25 then your risk decreases. In addition if you are over 25 and your car is worth little there is evidence to suggest you are very statistically unlikely to claim as the car insurer will find it cheaper to write your car off if you have an accident.
All this information has been posted in many different threads by those who work and have worked in the industry.
As I mentioned before I wish that those who work for MSE would look at the simple things that are missing on the site and put articles on them helping to get rid of threads of repeated questions for example telling people clearly how to get out of auto-renewal for all types of insurance thus saving money, and indicating what insurance fees are fair for admendments and how to save money.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

FC was £5ish dearer than TPFT for me, well it was a no brainer FC all the way for me now ! especially since a windscreen costs more than the £25 excess for glass claims and the £5 more on yearly premiumsSealed pot challenger # 10
