Scientific notation help

Would anyone know how to represent a periodic decimal in scientific notation?

.3236833333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

Now I think the answer is 3.23683e * 10^-1.

However, I don't know if I've represented the periodic decimal properly. I have been googling the answer, but so far haven't found a definitive answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This may be more recent notation, but when I were a lad you put a dot over repeated digits!

I was taught to use the dot too. I've never seen the brackets used, but it seems quite elegant and easier to do on a PC.
