Talk Talk have finished giving out Nectar points.

Had an E mail from Nectar today saying that Talk Talk have stopped giving out Nectar points. This is a shame as I rather like collecting those....

My contract with Talk Talk has now ended and I thought I would try to find out whether they are still the cheapest.I went onto this site and saw that I would need a MAC code. So I rang Talk Talk and explained that I was thinking of leaving them and could I have my Mac code please.
I had also read the 'haggling' article and was looking forward to a good haggle...But the nice South African gentleman simply said I didn't need a MAC code to switch broadband providers. And he didn't try to dissuade me either.

My question is,is Talk Talk still the cheapest phone and broadband package? I pay 11.50 odd for line rental, and £6.50 odd for the Talk Talk International package, which I am happy with, but am a bit miffed that they have stopped giving out Nectar points...

And I fancied a wee rant....

Do you know how little Nectar points are worth?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You need a mac to change providers, nectar points are worth pennys
  • I know how little Nectar points are worth...I am with EDF energy and they do them too.I amassed £50 in 2 years which I know isn't a lot but that is not the point really is it?
    Talk Talk have withdrawn them.

Are you sure I need a MAC code? That isn't what I was told earlier....

If you're on Talk Talk's LLU broadband, you don't need a MAC.

No I`m talking about the TT package I`m on which is now called Essentials.

I get line rental, broadband (up to 8megs--I average 6.2megs),free calls evening & weekends, free local calls ANYTIME,free 0845 & 0870 within my free call time and also free anytime calls to 36 overseas destinations.
    All this for £17-74 a month,which I know for a fact can`t be beaten.

So Youpaymore,it`s looking like you do pay more!

I am confused now...The above post does not tally with what I have just been told by Talk Talk...I just took a look at that other thread about nectar points, and found the above post.

I just rang TT and asked to change from my TT international (with free calls evening and weekend) which I pay 11.25 and 6.50 on top, something like that anyway.
I was told that I could have free daytime local calls and pay no more money. Then he said if I paid another £4 a month on top I could have the free 0845 and 0870 on top...But only evenings and weekends.
I don't get this.If I make an 0845 and 0870 call it is usually during the day.
So basically, for £4 extra per month this entitles you to make calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, but only in the evenings and weekends?
Surely there is something wrong there?
  • Sorted.

Just rang TT again and asked exactly what the call packages are and how much they cost.

The one I am on gives me free local calls daytime evenings and weekends, and free 0845 and 0870 evenings and weekends.

For an extra £4 I get free local and national calls, day, evening and weekends, and free 0845 and 0870 numbers day, weekend and evenings.

    I think.....

    http://www.moneysupermarket.com/MediaCentre/RateAlerts/RA92.html

LLU MAC Code problems – Some ISPs who are LLU providers claim they cannot issue MAC codes for LLU to go back to the BT Wholesale network and that you need to start a new contract with BT first and switch with them. This is not true, BT have a system in place to accept MAC codes from LLU providers switching back to BT, so keep persisting.

So if your moving to another LLU provider like 02 or sky you should be fine without a mac (news to me), but if your going to use a BT based braodband provider seems you can press for a MAC code to make things run smoother.
