Cat D Car with no logbook

  • Ask the seller to provide proof that he bought the car from a salvage auction. At the end of the day, many cars are bought, repaired and flogged on this way. http://www.hbc.co.uk/ is one particular company that deals in salvage cars, etc. They frequently sell cars without log books, and it is true that many buyers do not apply for the log book to avoid putting another registered keeper on the book.

See if the seller can prove where he bought the car from. My mate buys a lot of salvage cars. She rarely gets the log books with the cars. Sometimes, she doesn't even get the keys! However, they are legitimately bought from salvage.

What car is it? You're not buying it from someone in Essex, are you? My mate's brother also buys, repairs and sells salvage cars. He sold a black FTO to someone yesterday without the log book. Car's perfectly legit, though.

run away! If he'd paid £19 for a new logbook, he'd have a much more "sellable" car on his hands, even if it did have one more owner. The fact that hje hasn't is not so much a warning as a "DON'T TOUCH ME WITH A BARGEPOLE" message scorched across the sky in 300 foot high neon letters.
