They don't mention the fact that the lessons are not on a one to one basis, there can be up to three of you in the car with the instructor.

When it comes to the compulsory 40 hours for part 3 you spend more than half of than in a classroom, the rest in a car shared with at least one student. You end up getting around 5 hours of actual teach practice and if you need to work a bit more on a certain skill its tough luck as they need to move onto the next section.

If you want to learn go with an independant instructor who will offer you all the support that you need and will fit the training around what you need, giving you extra tuition on areas where you need to build on your skills, rather than keeping up with a set programme.

I have only seen 1 red car, i live in a area that has lots of independent driver schools, i have had 24 lessons so far most of them a waste of time i wasn't even taught to use mirrors - i only learned to use mirrors when i changed instructors at the 20th lesson!!

I have no clue either about a good driving instructor, if anyone can recommend a good instructor in the Newcastle upon Tyne area i would appreciate it.

Do you know anyone who can recommend anyone?

I've never seen any Red Driving school cars around here. I know someone who has just passed an assesement day with them and is due to start 'training' soon. Would warn her but her mind is already made up.

i passed with a company called around the bend. my instructor was based in stanley and he might travel to newcastle as he gave me newcastle as a choice of where to do my test.

he was a very good instructor compared to my previous one and i was driving 3 months after starting with him. i hadnt driven for 3 years due to my previous instructor not suiting my method of learning.

i mainly went with around the bend due to the prices. I was paying £19 an hour or if i block booked i paid £17 an hour. That is what I paid back in 2004 when I first started to learn to drive!

I know a few driving instructors and work is sometimes hard to come by. Plus the costs of running a car and petrol etc you cant always raise prices
  • Red Driving School are also major spammers - I get regular spam emails from them on an address which I specifically set up to monitor spam. I have never contacted them and have no interest whatsoever in becoming a driving instructor so I am 100% certain that their emails are unsolicited spam (sent via a major spam network in the USA).

A visit to a decent spam filter would be more than advantagous?
