Just Made Redundant - Total Nightmare!

So was given my notice today - I will get one months pay and a few hundred pounds redundancy.
I was at my company for just under two years and a devastated.
I now also have a mortgage which I will never be able to afford to keep up repayments on. Does anyone know whether I can claim housing benefits for my own property?
If not then I will definitely be repossessed
I dont know what to do - Everything is falling apart

Well Chloe, someone will be on soon to post links to helpful websites etc. I can't do it because I'm a numpty. But here is my advice:
1 Don't panic (nothing is ever as bad as you fear it is going to be)
2 Sort out a Statement of Affairs, listing income, debts etc so that you can see the bigger picture.
3 Get over to the money saving old style board, you will be surprised at how little you need to live on.
4 Make sure you have a support network around you, family, friends, neighbours etc. If any of mine came to me on the scrounge for food, a lift somewhere etc, I would never refuse. When times are hard we skint folks have to stick together.
I know it is difficult to find a job at the moment, but it is not impossible. Try and stay positive, keep busy doing everything you can to ease your situation. You don't have a crystal ball, therefore you don't know that you are going to lose your house. One step at a time, one day at a time. Here's a virtual hug. I will check in tomorrow to see what good advice all the other peeps on here post.0 -
Cant give you much advice i am afraid but I am sure someone will be along soon to help you out. I was made redundant in April and thought that was it, would loose my house, me and the kids would be homeless and unfed etc but I did manage to find another job just to tide me over till something better came along and just to pay the mortgage and bills really then I was one of the really lucky ones who has since found a brilliant secure (as secure as it can be) job and so I dont have the worry like I did.
But what I did find out though was that after 12 weeks from the date that you sign on the government will pay the interest on your mortgage and you find the rest, thankfully I didnt have to resort to this but it made me feel a little better although I did worry about the first 12 weeks. I also spoke to the CAB who advised me on what benefits I could claim and the approx amount of money that I would have coming in each week which meant I could still down and work out an approx budget. I spoke to all my utility co's that I new had bills coming in from and explained my situation and most of them were pretty good with me and advised they would help as much as they could. I also looked at stoping my broadband and my package tv deal to just freeview to claw back some money. You need to phone and make an appointment with the Job centre as soon as you finish, they will only do this once you are technically out of work.
If your not working its easier to shop for food, you can go to the farms for your veg, I found a great butcher for my basic meats and the rest of my essentials I shopped around at the different supermarkets or the likes of pound shop/B & M etc for toiletries and the local market for other bits.
You have to remember that it was your job that was made redundant not you and go for anything you can job wise. I found the job centre website really good and thats where I found the job that I am in now.
Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.0 -

sorry to hear you news...
Lets get a plan together...
what do you do for a living? are these skills that you can use in other areas, ie freelance to keep wolves from doors. places like people per hour, look on the up your income boards, lots of opps on there - just depends on what you NEED to pay the bills whilst looking for something else
do you have kids etc?
check entitled to to see what help is out there for you?
I assume you do not have mortgage protection?
You can get assistance with the interest from mortgage paid for you when on IB JSA, but not on CB JSA
Speak with mortgage co now and offer reduced payments - they have a legal obligation to assist you - who is mortgage with some are easier to deal with than others
You will be able to get council tax benefit.
Do and SOA and get it on the debt free wanna be boarda nd here too, we will help where we can.
Go over to old style money saving - loads of hints/tips etc on there
Lodger maybe? drastic, but could help you out if you managed to find a less well paid job to put you on?

Mortgage companies do NOT have a legal obligation to assist you.
Where did you get that from?
Naturally, it is in their interests to help if they can, but there is absolutely no legal obligation.0 -
Try to hang on to your house by contacting motgage company & explaining the situation & ask for a reduction in the repayments.
Search about for a suitable Sell & Leaseback Scheme so if the worst happens then you can sell your house yourself & still live in it.
Regards,
N.Never be afraid to take a profit.
Keep breathing.
Just because I am surrounded by FOOLS does not make me wise. :j0
