Shazza, no your partner won't qualify for income based JSA after his cont based runs out as you are working too many hours.

Magic, To qualify for cont based JSA you will need to have paid sufficient NI contributions in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 tax years, not sure of the amounts needed though, perhaps someone more knowledgeable will be able to help later. As for HB and CTC, you won't get them automatically, you will have to make a seperate claim.

Thank you Sue . I can't find out anywhere how much NI contributions you need to have paid but it's probably worth claiming anyway and see if it is enough.

JSA(C) may be claimed for only 26 weeks before having to move onto JSA(IB), if eligible (see below).
They must also have to have paid Class 1 National Insurance contributions on earnings of at least 25 times the Lower Earnings Limit in one of the two complete financial years before the start of the benefit year in which the claim is being made. They must also have to have paid Class 1 or Credited Class 1 contributions on earnings of at least fifty times the Lower Earnings Limit in both complete financial years before the start of the benefit year in which the claim is being made.

extract from wikipedia (it is correct!) I think LEL is currently around £98 a week

If claim to benefit was made after first Sunday in 2009 then tax years are 06/07 and 07/08
