Sound Driver Has Stopped Internet Access

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just managed to restore my PC today, and I forgot that updating the driver for my sound freezes all my other programs - in particular my Internet Access!!

So before I restore the whole PC again, does anyone have any advice on how I can get rid of the last driver update to make my internet access work again - the AOL sign on screen just freezes!!

I'm having to use my old PC again, which does not have a CD drive that can be written too, so I can't save drivers unless they fit on a floppy!

I have no sound, and I was trying to make the sound work after restore, but in all honesty, I just want my faster PC to work - any advice??

is this ME? If so, it's difficult.

You could split the old drivers across several floppies, if they don't fit on one. Or use winzip?

If it is a registry entry that is causing the problem, then scanreg /restore may undo the change.

If it is an actual driver file, then you may have to use the other route, or just copy the individual files over the top of the ones in windows, windows/sytem, windows/inf, one by one. Then cross your fingers and reboot..

Thanks for the advice, think I may just restore the PC again (90 mins work) and put all the files I have downloaded onto CD before I do, so I don't have to restore them again, and I will avoid going anywhere near the sound drivers!

no harm in trying a scanreg /restore first..

I tried it, but it didn't solve the problem, although it sorted out another error.

Will avoid trying to upgrade/restore sound drivers this time, I think the soundcard must be dead.

If that is the case then the hardware profile should show a yellow blip against the device.

IIRC you should just be able to uninstall the sound card as well.

Is the soundcard on the motherboard or a separate card itself?

Yes, it has a yellow mark, next to unknown device and Gameport Joystick?

I tried uninstalling the soundcard once before, but the inside of the PC went 'pop' and my monitor screen wobbled and had a zig zag line shoot through it - frightened the life out of me!

The soundcard is seperate.

It should allow you in properties to remove the entry.
