B&Q sent me an email at 19.00 last night [17th Aug], informing me of their fantastic 15% off weekeend ...running from the 14th August until 8PM on 17th August. [Nothing previous to this wrt this sale]

Needless to say I didn't rush down to B&Q for the last remaining 35 minutes [by the time I got there].

What muppet decided that this was a sensible thing to do?

They would have been better not sending anything at all, rather than an email demonstrating how stupid they are.

I got something similar from a furniture store through the post. The invitation was to a VIP 'valued customer' viewing of their new range at a VIP discount on a Sunday. The problem was the letter was posted 2nd class on the Friday and the invite arrived on the Monday! They actually paid for the postage!

Due to holding a huge customer base (ie: sending any old email to any email addresses they can find who have given the data to them) these type of mass emails can take time to come through the system, sometimes days. I'm not saying this happened in your case, but it might have. I think Martin MSE has said the weekly email needs to be sent in four batches (someone correct me if I'm wrong) due to the sheer amount of emails pinging their way out to us.
