Jobcentre people couldn't find their own !!!!!!. (after filling in the right form in triplicate to get permission to do so). Someone from here was telling me how they said a form had been filled in for housing benefit, but the housing benefit people hadn't received it. And the info and help my sister and ex have been getting is really confusing. Oh, and I had to fill in a form because of ex moving out. The letter sending the form was dated August 12, then I got a letter dated August 13th asking why I hadn't sent it back yet. Either their computer is very thick, or they have far higher expectations of Royal Mail than anyone else!

Wow! Looks like I've got gree fingers. Just been out to pick todays tomatoes and we've got 150g today! yesterday it was 105g and the day before we picked 110g. We still have about 60 cherry tomatoes out there (mostly green though) including a few that are almost normal tomato size. We have 2 tomato plants and this is the second year of attempted growing. We pulled all the flowers and buds off about a month ago because nothing was turning red and we would have ended up with about twice as many tomatoes (but I don't think the plants could have supported that many to be honest). I think I shall let them grow flowers again now (as so many are ripening) and if can carry on getting tomatoes until late September that would be great (if it looks cold and frosty I shall probably pick what's left and ripen indoors). All I have done is water them fairly often, pick out the lower leaves and lots of flowers (they are bush tomatoes and had so many leaves underneath) and once a week (or when we remember - sometimes less) we feed them.
Strawberries have also grown like topsy - we have 4 but have only had about 6 small strawberries although they are huge with big green leaves strangely.
Carrots are taking forever and we might end up with 8 if we are lucky (never grown carrots before just stuck the seeds in and hoped for the best).
Lavender growing really well and hopefully will flower next year (1st year for lavender).
And our rose is doing alright as well - keep deadheading and watering and feeding and it seems to be doing o.k.
Not exactly self-sefficient but hey :rotfl:.

Ooops yes sorry I meant card not purse. And I'd like to point out that I would have said I was brown fingered before - must be doing something right - although last year I sucessfully drowned some peppers - oh dear.

Any applications experts around? I wondered if someone could read an application for me.

Ooh that's brilliant DF! I have a few tiny tomatoes but not much from the number of plants I had :o Quite a few potatoes though and should be loads of garlic as long as nothing happens to it in the next few weeks!

wow. I'd love to grow potatoes and garlic - I am almost a complete beginner it has to be said and have already taken over part of the communal garden with pots :rotfl:.
Some people seem to have had success with tomatoes but some haven't this year. I guess next year I'll get strawberries and tomatoes won't do so well. Who knows.
How are you growing them? pots/grow bags/in the ground?

Gemmzie do you mean job applications or benefit applications?
