Land of leather - hurry!

A friend at work told me about Land of Leather closing down. They are clearing all stocks in stores. I just bought a Red Leather corner sofa from £2000 to £850 with foot stool after haggling and they chucked in some leather cleaner too.

The same Red leather sofa was £599 but the corner shape was in the wrong direction for my room. They said the reason this one was so cheap at £599 is because they made a massive BULK order, whilst the other corner shape was only ordered in small amounts.

They got some nice 3 and 2 seater black leather recliners for £500. Some bargins to be had if you pop in store

Delivery they wanted £69 but we will pick ours up.

All stores are closing so get in quick!

Next door at Harveys the similar sofa was double the price!

Thanks

  • i will NEVER buy anything from land of leather again. i purchased 3 seater & two seater leather recliner sofas from them about 2 years ago for £599, i also purchased their gold protection/warranty which guarantees against ink, rips etc etc...when we got the sofa home and pushed it into place we realised that it felt very low quality & not overly secure, it was then that we realised that the back support bar was missing leaving a metal pole hanging down just enough to rip our brand new living room carpet. We had to drive all the way back up to the store to pick up the back support bar and nuts and bolts ( which they took from another sofa?!) then drive home and fix it all back together, should have realised what cowboys they were then really...... within 18 months the leather started to split between the seats leaving the white webbing underneath on display, very unsightly on a black suite. phoned the company that provided the extra added insurance that i paid £200 for, they sent someone out to look at it & i had to wait a further week until i received my decision. i was told that my insurance wouldn't cover it because the bits that had split were not leather, they were pvc and the guarantee didn't cover that! furious, i phoned the land of leather store where i purchased the suite and explained this to the woman, who then offered me £100 to keep it in its current condition - i couldn't beleive it! i had also been told by the insurance man that the only part of the suite that was actual leather were the top of the arm rests, top of seats & top of back rest, everything else was cheap pvc! after many months, phonecalls to the manager and emails being sent & received i was told that i could return to the store & choose a replacement free of charge. managed to arrange a babysitter and we drove all the way up there only to be told NO to every sofa i chose?! as you can imagine my temper was more than a little frayed by this time so very uncharacteristically of me i fired a load of abuse at the counter staff and manager & walked out. i returned home & decided enough was enough. i emailed the manager had told him that after speaking to my solicitor i would no longer be recieving phonecalls & that all communication had to be in writing. Another few weeks of emails & i was offered a full refund of £599 for the suite, i'd really had enough by this point so just wanted to give in & accept it, but i argued with the manager that i had been mis-sold the insurance as it never even covered 80% of the suite! after a few more days he agreed on a refund of £799 & arranged to have 2 members of staff come & pick the sofa up. i was then left without a sofa for 9 weeks until my new 100% italian leather sofa from furniture village arrived. I know that was a bit of a rant but i just wanted to let everyone know what the land of leathers customer service is like. If you type land of leather complaints or forums into google you will find loads of stories like mine. If you want a leather sofa then don't buy from land of leather as you WILL NOT BE GETTING REAL LEATHER.A company that calls itself land of leather when it sells cheap plastic sofa's with the smallest amount of leather possible should be avoided........Imo

here is a report from 21st may 2009 on land of leather:

21 May 2009 - Land of leather found guilty of misleading Customers

    header-corner-bl.gifheader-corner-br.gif
Furniture store, Land of Leather Ltd, was today found guilty, at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court, of misleading customers.
Londonderry Magistrates' Court proceeded on paper to convict Land of Leather, due to the non court appearance of their Administrators, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Land of Leather, which went into administration on 12 January 2009, was given an absolute discharge on all accounts due to its trading status and also in the interests of creditors, who might be disadvantaged if fines were issued against the company.
In the case, brought by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment’s Trading Standards Service (TSS), the court heard how Land of Leather had adopted a practice of claiming savings against a ‘recommended retail price’ - a price that had never actually been charged. For example, one suite of furniture on display had a sales ticket claiming “£999 - save £1,000 - RRP £1,999”.
Trading Standards Investigating Officer, Catherine McErlean, said: “When using price comparisons during sales or other promotions, traders must base savings on genuine previous prices.
“Using terms such as ‘recommended retail price’ can give customers a misleading impression of the realistic saving to be made. The term ‘save’ should only be used in cases where an item is offered at a price lower than that for which the identical item was previously sold – in other words, that it is genuinely reduced.
“Retailers making price comparisons should ensure that they are fair, meaningful and do not mislead consumers.”
Consumers who suspect they have been misled by a trader’s claim of a price reduction should report it to Consumerline on tel: 0845 6006262 or log on to https://www.consumerline.org.

How long have you had the sofa you ended up with? - I'd be tempted to say it won't last long - but if your happy...

at least they have finally closed down and can no longer sell "leather" AKA PVC =)

I've had my leather sofa from there for about six years. I'm still really pleased with it. We even had to phone them when we moved (two years after we bought it) because we couldn't get it out of the house, they knew exactly what we'd bought and were able to tell us exactly how to take it apart.
