Dulux Once - any good?
Comments

Hi I am a Dulux Select Decorator, and may be a bit biased but and you are all right! Dulux's once and Crown's Solo just don't cut it. They seem to aimed at the lazy and "can't realy be bothered to do it properly". So stop wasting your money and buy a good quality brush and Top quality paint like Dulux and do the job properly, and thats two full coats. And for those of you that need to cover a strong colour go to a trade merchant and buy TRADE Dulux its better paint than retail and has more covering power.0

All oil based paints do this, heat and/or lack of light cause the paint to continue curing, light just holds back the curing process. If you have yellowed gloss, satin or eggshell just leave the doors open or move the vase on the window sill and it will revert to white eventualy.
However if you want to avoid yellowing completely then buy an acrylic based paint (water based), they never yellow, its just that the finish is not quite as good but getting better.
After 2010 you won't be able to buy oil based paint anymore anyway. Europe saving the environment and yet they allow 4X4s that do 25mpg! Go figure.0 -
Thanks for the info taichipaul. However, in spite of your assertion that all spirit based paints go yellow, I have never known white paint go yellow as quickly as the Dulux Once, and I have been house-painting for 40+ yrs, though admittedly as a d-i-y er.
I would add that the Crown I used to cover the Dulux is also spirit-based, but is showing no sign of yellowing at all.0 -

Have used Once gloss recently, and found it very thick and very sticky. It was specifically for a rush project and I thought the results were OK ( considering only one coat was used ). Have to agree that the finish could be much better, and the job took twice as long because you don't want to miss a bit! I also used emulsion as an undercoat ( as we had a large tin of that lying around ) rather than buy another tin of that too.Z

I agree with Gazcon: it was like applying glue and very thick glue at that. Even though I applied it to small areas as recommended, it dragged so I ended up with patches and a very lumpy finish. I've found Crown Solo and B&Qs own brand much better than this pricey, ineffective product.0

hello, can I go to the B&Q trade area and then get trade paint as such, sorry to sound div!0
