Newbie here: advice needed about gas/elec
Hello,
Im new to the whole business of singing up for gas and electricity and would appreciate some direction please.
Ive used confused.com and Consumer Focus to compare tariffs and for dual fuel and the top three are:
- EDF energy dual fuel online
- E.On Save Online Dual Fuel
- Npower Web 16
I was thinking of going with E.On as there's only £20 difference in the annual cost, and I was planning to go through Quidco for £70 cashback.
I dont have any concrete usuage figures from the previous year to go on so took my best guesstimate using annual figures from parents house as a rough guide. 24000 KWh gas and 4000KWh is what I used.
Is there any way I can reconfirm the quotes Ive got from confused?
Do I have to enter my current details of usuage/supplier/tariff when checking prices on their actual websites or can I just put Unknown? Does that make a difference, or do they just want to know that so they can show you how much of a saving (if at all) you could make by switching to them?
And one last question...E.On have an offer for 490 or so tesco clubcard points if you take their saveonline tariff. Since I dont have a clubcard, is there any way I could give these to my dad who does have one, so they dont go to waste as it were? Or is the account holder the only one allowed to get them?
Really appreciate any help and any advice or ways to save extra
thanks

hi there if you just moved into a new place you may have to use the existing suppliers for a month first.
also dual fuel is not always cheapest so check individual quotes as well.0 -
Hi, thanks for the response.
I due to move in beginning on Sep, so if I sort this out now, will I still have to be with the current supplier (Bristish Gas) ?
Confused gave their results as both dual fuel and single fuel, and dual worked out cheaper than the two cheapest single fuel tariffs.0 -
Hi qxt123, :hello:
When you first move into a new property, you enter into a deemed contract with the current supplier of the property, you can then start a transfer to another supplier from the date you move in. You shouldn’t start a transfer until you are responsible for this property, as you would be effectively making a decision for the current owner/landlord.
You can back up your current quote results with the help of other comparison sites; check the resource bar at the top of this forum page.
You can register anybodies Tesco club card against your E.ON account, it’s completely up to you. The 490 points is the amount you can earn based on the information provided in your quote, i.e. if you spend £980 on energy with E.ON you will earn 490 Tesco points. You receive 1 point per £2 towards your energy. The 490 is not a total amount given to you on joining.
