Err i was going to say 1car1 but they appear to have gone bust. There are lots of firms that hire cars for the kind of period you are looking for, it'll be easy but not cheap. If it was me i'd try and find a banger that had just been MOT'd and serviced for £500 or so and then either sell it or scrap it at the end.0

Speak to your employer to see if they could maybe get you a short term deal for you from their leasing company?0

Your choices are; buy a cheap car then sell it, buy a very cheap car and scrap it, borrow a car when you need it, hire a car when you need it or find some short term leasing.
Really depends what you'll be using it for, how often, how far you'll be going etc.
If its only occasional use then maybe hiring something for those times. If its everyday commuting then leasing or buying might be cheaper. Or if you can borrow a car and just pay to be added to insurance or use Day Insure.
Just do a google on short term car leasing and see what comes up, see what kind of car you'd need and what the price will be. Then compare it, remember with short term leasing it should be all inclusive (as always, watch the T&Cs) whereas buying your own you'll be responsible for paying out if it breaks down.0
