Upgrading Natwest Step Account

Hi,

I recently opened a Natwest Step account, the lady in branch told me to keep it running well for 3 or so months and then they could upgrade to a Servicecard account.

I've got a really bad credit rating with a few defaults :( but am trying to get back on track.

Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing with Natwest? or was she spinning me some lines?

Thanks

David x

I had about 10 defualts when we opened a full current account with Ulster Bank which is our local natwest bank , if that makes sense lol

We had to supply statments from our old bank for 3 months to show how we run account and had no charges etc and we were given servicecard and chequebook so I would think if your run your step account correctly they MAY upgrade you.

I do not think she was leiing to you lol

Why would she 'spin you some lines' about something like that?!

I would suggest 2 months is perhaps likely to be too short a time period but not impossible. If you get a Solo card now it will be changed to a Visa Debit shortly anyway.

It is much easier to get an upgrade from Ulsterbank than Natwest/RBS. Natwest never gave me an upgrade from my step account for over 3 years, even tho I ran it perfectly. Ulsterbank gave me a Service card on the basis that I already had a debit card facility with another bank, and at the time They only issued cash cards or service cards. So they gave me one

One of the key things is the regularity of the money coming in, for instance making two grand one week and then nothing for a month would not be as three hundred pounds a week every week without fail. The importance of not going overdrawn cannot be over stated.

The chances are that the woman was right, if however after three months of running the account well they do not give you what you want then look elsewhere. I think you will be ok. All the best.
