I'm still trying to sort my backup routine out and I wanna make sure that I also have an off site backup.
Question is, does it do incremental backups? - For example, I upload my entire photos directory, then if I backup once a week, will it only upload new and changed files?
The ones i'm looking at is Microsoft SkyDrive & Adrive.
Thanks

I use Idrive and that is an incremental back up.0

looks good, didnt realise that was incremental. I was hoping to avoid having to pay though and the free 2Gb is not enough. I'd previously looked at getdropbox.com, similar but allows syncing over multiple pcs. Again they dont give enough storage!
I just wish skydrive etc was similar!
Also like the look of powerfolder.com & kabooza.com0 -
I use carbonite, costs £38 per year for unlimited backup space, best PC investment I ever made. If you refer other people you get a couple of months free, which reduces the cost a bit. If you do decide to use Carbonite, let me know and I'll send you an email link (cheeky I know, but if there's a chance to save a couple of quid!)

https://www.123-reg.co.uk/online-storage-drive/ gives 5GB multimedia plus 5GB other filetypes free
The problem with relying on any third party service (free or paid-for) is that they could go belly up so make sure you have a local backup too.0 -
thanks all - some good suggestions. I have looked into a few before, but I have over 5Gb that needs backing up and ideally i'd like this to be free and fairly easy - eg once the first back up is done, it only uploads new & changed files
Ok, Narrowed it down a bit:
IDrive $50 - 150Gb
Carbonite $55 - unlimited
Dropbox $100 - 50Gb
Mozy $55 - Unlimited
Powerfolder - $55
Not sure if 123-drive allows incremental backups & the 5Gb for multmedia & 5Gb for others is weird. They also delete stuff if you dont log in for 90 days.
A bit more research to do when I get chance. Theres a lot of good stuff out there, it's finding the one that ticks all the boxes and is cheap (or better free)0 -
still not had time to sort this yet... cant wait till it's all out of the way and hopefully my next post will be of help to others in a similar position0

I decided to try 123 drive again after having let it lapse and have found that you actually get 25GB of space for media files + 5GB non-media free. That isn't separate space you just have the single space and it tells you what your files amount to.
As such it isn't a backup service and there is no concept of incremental backups - it is just somewhere to copy your digital photos etc. to. You can pass links of folders or files to friends if you wish.
I'm using my space to store photos mainly. At home I use a NAS based RAID array for most of data plus regular image backups of the opsys partition. For the most part partition images would take forever to upload and blow the allocation.0 -
thanks for that info, saved me extra research.
will i think the answer has now presented itself - powerfolder are offering there new version (number 4) as a free beta test version with 20Gb of free storage. It seems to offer everything I need - online storage with backup of new / changed files, and sync of multiple pcs!
Ok - not sure when the beta test will end, but they will be offering a discount for beta testers on the full version which is normally about $55 inc 10Gb online storage and syncing to multiple pcs.
And the other option is DropBox who are beginning to trial smaller storage so $49 a year for 10GB (but this is on top of the free amount so I'd get 15Gb).0
