hi all
just wondered if anyone has wooden worktops, and if so, how you find them for everyday use. i found a company called mountain hardwoods who supply oak worktops. the prices seem reasonable, but I'm just unsure of the practicallity of a wooden worktop.
i don't want any water damage etc.
thanks :T

Yes, we have oak worktops. They are fine. I sanded them down, oiled them and varnished them last summer and they are fantastic. Obviously I don't chop veg on them or anything, but for everyday use they are gonna last a lifetime if taken care of.0

just ditched the one's that were fitted before we moved as they were black, water marked and stained.... No idea of the quality or finishing done as we didn't fit them but it certainly put me off the idea (which I've always loved) of wooden worktops.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

i had wooden work tops for 12 years, they werent too bad by the time i moved and i hadnt really stuck to the regime of rubbing them with beeswax every 6 months but i was a bit of a stickler about not getting water on them, much to everyone elses irritation, couldnt put hot pans down, worried about spilling curry and stuff, couldnt clean them with bleach. much as i loved the look of them, i wouldnt have them again0

We have had beech block ones for 21 years now. I have refinished them twice (sanded off any marks and reoiled), they need doing again now. Once done they will look like new again.0

I have oak in my new kitchen but previously had beech worktops that lasted well - had them for 10 years. I keep them oiled and they are fine. More you use detergents to clean them with more often you'll have to oil them, but I find them quite easy to maintain. Any marks are easily sanded off and they look great.0
