Im wondering if you could help me, my nan has had a letter from the gas company about her next being £120, its usually £60 but as the next bill is £120 its more than a weeks pension for her. She has spoken to said gas company and said that its too much for her to pay and is there anyway to stop the payment but without no readings then they couldnt reduce the payment, she was told the only to stop it would be for her to cancel it herself but shes worried that if she does that then they will cut her off. Anyone got any advice i could pass on to her, ive given her the number for citizens advice bureau, the problem is that the gas meter is in a position which isnt very accessible, its had kitchen cabinets built around the meter.

My advise would be to get an accurate meter reading as soon as possible, how long is it since the meter has been read?
Is she currently in debt to the company which may explain the increase?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

she isnt in debt, from what she said the reason for the increase is that the meter hasnt been read and so the payments have gone up,

Can't you go round and read it for her?

Hi DCFC79 - Penrhyn is right, now matter how awkward it is you must get a current meter reading - it could well be that BG owe your Gran money.
From your post it appears that Gran lives on her own. If she does and it's a small house or flat, her Gas use could be low enough to make it worth her while to switch to Ebico - If you can get reliable meter readings a year, or even two year apart, and post them on this site I am sure you will get helpful replies
    Good Luck with the cupboards
