I thought this legislation had already been introduced so that parents could buy cheaper alternatives. I agree with replacing uniform as they need it rather than inthe summer holidays. So far this year I have bought 2 pairs of school trousers at £8 each , 2school shirts for son from Asdas, 4 polo shirts for daughter from Asdas and a pair of shoes each from shoefayre at £12 each. Will probably also get son a new tie as the clip on his old one has one wonky. I honestly don't know how people can afford to pay hundreds of pounds for school uniform and still have to buy clothes for out of school as well. I know it would be impossible for me and also for the parents I know as well.

I brought up the subject of the legislation, but the school insists that they are within the law as they have two stores to buy the uniform from - even the shoes have to be a certain type of shoe, which isn't good when you have to buy size 7(which cost more than the smaller sizes), the P.E kit the school states is outside of the legislation:mad: The blazer also has to have the school logo on it which has to be sewn on in a paticular place, and the school tie can only be bought from the school.

Funny though watching a girl going into year 7 and her grandparents in WH Smiths the other day who had a list of items they had to have, from plain black pencil case, roller ball handwriting pens x3, 2 HP pencils coloured in blue, a silver scientific calculator etc etc i was just glad my son didn't go to that school.
  • Glad I don't work there! I have 5 paydays til Christmas - August, September, October, November and December!!!!!

    I get paid weekly ;)

last year I didn't by the school pe kit and the kids got sent home with notes asking me to correct the uniform infringements - just because it didn't have the school logo on it !

I could understand it if they were in a team, representing the school, but for running around the gym hall I think everyone knows which school the kids are from

My son lost his PE before christmas, at a cost of more than £100. During assembly they have to dump all bags and coats in the lunch hall. They have no choice. There was no way he could have prevented his kit from going missing, therefore who knows how often it's going to happen

Why did they change the girls' uniform and not the boys? Isn't the point of a uniform to have everyone the same? :undecided

they say it was to stop the girls rolling up shirt sleeves and stupid little or fat ties.

my argument would of been get clip on ties so they cant be changed and make the girls roll down sleeves if seen lol.

it is a ridiculous amount of money for school uniform for what is a bulk standard secondary comprehensive school (admittedly with a very good reputation). We are in catchment but some of the catchment is very rich others middle and some very poor. its a real mix but they expect everyone to fork out £300 each child for uniform incl shoes and trainers.

Then dont get me started on the ridiculous school trips they try to get them to go on like £5k to new zealand lol. its always the same rich kids that go on them lol.

little miss divadee knows not to ever bring letters like that home lol

Just went on my school unifom shop today, eldest son at grammer going upto yr 10 where they have a change of uniform and youngest just starting primary, with 2 more in between.
The only shop I moaned about being in was the national schoolwear shop as I felt like I had been forced into that shop. and when I asked for the school badge so I could sew it into the blazer I got from Tescos (which was 1/3 of the price from the school shop) was told unfourtunatly that could not get any more until late September but I could buy their already embroided blazer I was furious, needless to say I left, but only after having to buy the younger ones cardies so they still got some of my money.
A note will be sent into school and advise them about the lack of supplies from the one and only shop that stocks their specific items.

So yes no wonder parents complain about the cost of uniform, £165 spent so far for 4 children with only a few more items to get, so I have been shoping on the cheap where I can.

    thanks xxx

she said to me once we could all go on holiday for that!!! not just me.

also maybe its just me, but a holiday to new zealand is way to much overkill for kids this age!! if we were to go i would want us to go as a family not on a school trip.

the kids i know have been seem to spend all the time in there hostel and not do that much really.

Don't they have their names sewn into the kit and in the bags????????

If not suggest the school make this compulsory to prevent loss/theft, would cost bog all to do, and save loads!

When I was at school we didn't have badged sports kit but we did have to have our names on the front of our polos and skirts in big letters. You could just sew labels inside.

If everyone who is unhappy writes formal letters of complaint to the board of governors then things may get changed - get campaigning. Tell everyone in the playground to do the same!!! PEOPLE POWER!!!!
