iPod help - use and update whilst away from laptop

I am a complete iPod newbie so please be gentle with me...

I have recently bought a new iPod classic (reconditioned 80gb for £100 on the Apple website) to take away travelling with me. I am going to download iTunes to my home computer, which will hopefully allow me to load all my saved music collection onto the iPod.

I am heading off travelling around the world for 9 months in September and I'm not taking my laptop. What I want to know is what is the best way to load new music onto my iPod as I travel around? Say I buy a CD and want to listen to it? Or I want to download a few podcasts.... Is it possible to do this using only the facilities of an internet cafe?

Reading things on the internet it sounds as if every time you plug your iPod into a different computer with iTunes, it tries to wipe everything on your Pod... EEK!!

Any advice? Or am I stuck with the same music collection for the duration of my travels??

Thanks,
Anna

Ok, there are many ways round this and Itunes isnt the only software you can use. I know for a fact that with the right plugin you can use winamp, and I also know for a fact that there is a portable version of winamp on the net, I cant post it in here but there is one out there, try google. Now a portable version of software means that it can live on a pendrive.... you see where I am coming from.

find the portable version of winamp, put it a folder on your desktop (your pretend pendrive) and see if you can install the plugin to that folder and use it with that version of winamp (remember when you install the pulgin that the folder is C:\desktop\winamp or whatever the folder is you made...)

    see how that goes.

scrap all that. keep your eyes on your PM
