Hi everybody ,

I was wondering , I am sort of new to this insurance buisness and I come across a nice cheap quote from http://www.performancedirect.co.uk/ , It was actually via Compare the market but this is the one that came up cheapest.

so i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of them?? Also I was slightly concerned if they are genuine by the look of their website....

Thanks!

Performance Direct is a trading name of Grove and Dean (http://www.grove-dean.co.uk/) that they use for the general insurance (car, van, home, etc) business that they deal with. They are more of an old-style broker than many intermediaries and on that basis they're probably OK to deal with.

They are pretty good for non-standard motor stuff like classics, kit cars etc (but in light of this it's probably best to check their admin fees as the lower premiums involved in these types tends to mean that they have to charge slightly higher admin fees as they're not earning a great commission from the insurer).

What is of equal or greater concern is the actual insurer which they will place you with!

Many thanks for your useful post :)

so i see their brokers so they will pass me on and this "admin fee" is like a hidden charge :(

Doesn;t sound so nice now :( All the major insurance companies have offered like £800 -ish pounds where this broker is offering £350-odd..

I'm trying to insure a Mitsubishi space wagon , 2 Litre, Made in 93 {K reg}, can anyone recommend a TRUSTWORTHY company without the hassle?

There's no reason why you should be put off by what I typed above!

They won't just 'pass you on' - they as a broker will get commission for selling the policy, and they will be the point of contact for adjustments to the policy etc - but the insurer will deal with claims (same as probably the majority of the quotes you find).

As I say, you would quite probably get better service from Performance Direct than many of the major motor insurance brands - it's less of a call centre environment, and they're used to dealing with more unusual business and so will tend to show greater flexibility and knowledge.

They are definitely a trustworthy company though - they were founded in 1974 and so have been in business much longer than many 'major insurance companies' in the motor market!

But again, check which insurer would be covering you for a fuller answer...
