I had this recently, and then immediately after that text I had another to say that my mortgage offer had been approved.
Then the next working day the offer came in the post!!0 -

Sounds good, but i haven't had the second text message, which might be bad i suppose!!
Received the survey report today, seems ok to me, but i've never read one before!!
Only action points were
Have the central heating system inspected
Have the electical system inspected, including the shower
Then a few considerations.
Improve insulation of tanks and roof void
Overhaul and repair the rainwater fittings (asbestos apparently and coming to the end of their life, but not to worry as long as it isn't drilled, sanded or sawn)
Re-point some masonry
Replace low level glazing wih safety glass ( i can only think this is the greenhouse, which seems an odd consideration to put!)
Carry out improvements to the doors
Is that a bad survey? I suppose not been as there's no subsidance or rot or anything like thatHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -

Don't Panic!
My OH and I are existing Nationwide Mortgage customers so I don't think they had to do many other checks, they were just waiting on the valuation, which is why I think I heard straight away!.0 -

Your Survey sounds very good - How old is the house??
These are the standard terms they put in ... get this/that inspected .... so that they cover there backs really as they are not qualified in either area.
These are both worth doing for your piece of mind though.
You can always speak to the surveyor over the phone, they are usually quite helpful and will explain things in more detail for you. e.g. the glass point.0 -
Cool, 1950s apparently.
Just re-read it again and there was a couple of bits about the porch extension and the fact that the wall seperating the lounge and dining room has been removed (well 3/4s removed), how to check that the building work was carried out properly ec. Presume that is a 'cover their back' thing too.
Just waiting for the formal mortgage offer now, god i hate waiting for anything!!! Never mind a house that we've been saving for for 6 years!!He who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
Woohoo!!!!!
"we've approved you're mortgage and will send your offer out soon"
Best. text message. ever.He who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
I'm exchanging and completing tomorrow and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to. The reason I'm doing it is that the seller is seriously ill and it would be horrible for all concerned if she died between exchange and completion.
The effect for me as a buyer is that I can't arrange removals, arrange to have services reconnected, get everything packed, get the heating system checked and re-started etc etc so I'll be paying a mortgage on a house I can't actually live in for another couple of weeks + while I sort all that out, plus it's been a nightmare getting the money all together so quickly (and cost me more for doing it fast). Worth it in this case, but generally not.
Your survey looks v good for a 50s house.0
