Thanks. Now why couldn't nPower tell me that. What's the heating reading? How could my meter tell. I think the number that must correlate to that hasn't changed in a while.

    "Rate 2 31990
    Rate 1 03010
    Rate 4 20848
    F 55849"

Where I put F on the last line, the symbol is actually the other way up, E without the top bar if you prefer. The Rate 1 reading hasn't changed in months. Those are the order they appear in as you cycle through. I notice that the "F" one appears to be all THREE added together. The engineer is due tomorrow so I should get an official answer soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

Before Easter, nPower sent me a bill saying I owed them ~2.5K which worked out around £150 a month. I eventually got them to admit that they had transposed my meter and were charging me my day use at the night rate and night use at the day rate. But this still means they think I am using ~£75 a month on electricity. This seems more than a bit steep to me. Am I right to be suspicious? I have asked them to come and check the meter but they refused.

Sounds right. We use £34 a month in a two bedroom all electric flat BUT immersion on half an hour a day, only heated one room this last cold winter and not every day only when it snowed or froze.

  • Many thanks for all of the replies. I can rest more easily now. Should anyone be interested, nPower have finally after several months of asking come back to me with what all the rates are. One is day rate, one night, the third they say is because it's an old meter and is a hangover from when the had a "day night day" package that is no longer used and would have been a third daily rate. The final one is a total.

    Thanks again.
