Powergen - be very careful!
I thought I would warn anyone considering changing to Powergen that the rates quoted on the comparison websites are incorrect.
I am already registered with their ‘Energy Online’ tariff. I received my bill last week and the rates were considerably higher than those quoted on the comparison websites, and also Powergen’s own website itself. I phoned Powergen this morning and was told that the rates being quoted online were incorrect.
This seems ridiculous and many people considering switching to Powergen will be misled into thinking that there are savings which are just not there. I was told that now the only difference between Powergen’s standard tariffs and their Online tariff is 2%. Measly to say the least, and could lead to a mass exodus from Powergen.
I would advise all existing online users of Powergen to check their bills carefully. For the record I was charged Electricity at 13.45p per primary unit and 8.63p for secondary units. Gas was 3.156p for primary and 2.51p for secondary. You will find all the comparison websites showing the secondary units considerably lower.

The quote I just got from their website says the charges are as follows:
Electricity
Normal units up to 800 kWhs 15.183 pence
Normal units 7.1925 pence per kWh
Gas
Normal units up to 4572 kWhs 3.5679 pence
Normal units 2.14515 pence per kWh
This is more than you're paying!0 -
Oh I get it now. I have kept a copy of the quote as the prices on your bill ARE different to those given by Powergen. I switched to Powergen on this basis about a week ago. If the actual prices are higher, surely they can't get away with that? There's nowhere else to actually get the prices from and the ones they're using to say "you're better off with us" are false.
How much extra is your bill compared to what you thought it was going to be? Are we talking a couple of quid here or a hundred?0 -
Powergen are signing up new customers on a lower tariff which is the one used on the switching sites to calculate savings. More info at this threadGeoffo_M wrote:I thought I would warn anyone considering changing to Powergen that the rates quoted on the comparison websites are incorrect.

Hi trippy - for me it is an extra £81 a year. I've realised that everyone's quote could be a bit different as it's post-code based.
But that doesn't seem fair to only give the lower tariff to the new customers. Maybe the trick is to leave and come back later. All seems a bit dodgy to me! Do all the energy suppliers employ that tactic or is it just Powergen?

Sorry to everyone - now realised that I have duplicated a thread. The other 'POWERGEN - UNDERHAND' thread is on exactly the same topic.
