Selling Privately Query - Newspapers & Web

Hi Everyone :)

Just wanted to ask everyone's opinion on selling a house privately.

We're looking to sell quite quickly and preferred selling privately due to the potential savings over using an estate agent. I'm curious to know if anyone has done this and what their experiences were ::)

I've already created a website for our house (a 4/5 bedroom semi in Mid-Wales) and have started putting up posters, etc in local supermarkets advertising it, but was thinking of maybe advertising it further afield in the press, etc.

Has anyone used the national press or popular magazines (locally or nationally) to advertise their property in this way and did they have any success. I don't mind spending some cash on this, but is it a cost-effective method of advertising property?

I'm also tempted to use an online property agency (such as those previously mentioned on this forum) but I'm curious as to the amount of people that actually view the site and obviously the actual property in turn.

I'd appreciate any tips or guidance with any of the above, or even you could take a look at my website and give me some feedback on that instead if you want ;D

Any serious offers greatly appreciated btw ;D

Very professional you should be an Estate agent.

I can tell you my experience is that it is not currently easy to sell via the www but I expect that to change with time.

We went through the process this year.
We created our own site linked here for interest

    http://www.apvp51.dsl.pipex.com/House%20Webpage/housedetails.html

We also put the house on with the little house company and other freebie www sites without much success and finally sold via a local agent.

I believe if you have a "different" house then it could sell on the www but you also need local coverage to ensure you are covering all angles.

My advice would be to list your place on a few of the better free listing sites and then do the best deal you can with a local agent to ensure you also cover the local market.

Remember not everyone is web savvy and if you do sell via the www you do not have to pay the estate agent even with a sole agency agreement.

    Anyway you can see reviews and links to free listing sites here;

    I hope the site helps.

Apologies to others for posting that address again, I have not figured out how to link back to another thread yet.

    Hi alanobrien

Thanks for the tips and websites, they were very useful ;D

As you say from your own experience, you had to turn to an estate agent in the end - well I suppose at the end of the day I'll also be resigned to that fact also. But I just had to give it a go on my own first ;D

Your welcome and dont give up !
Give the freebie listing sites a go, you have nothing to loose but a bit of time to set them up and who knows you may find a buyer and if so your approx 4k better off by not paying an agent.

Best of luck with the sale.
