You could also create accounts with User privilidges and not login as administrator except when necessary. That way it'll be much harder for s/w to secretely install itself, but lots of legit. s/w assumes home users all have admin. rights.

If you're on broadband, definitely hide the PC behind a router with NAT and a firewall.

Thanks for all of the advice. I've made copies as you suggested tigermatt.

The system actually comes with a 3 month trial of Bullguard. Does anyone have any opinion on this? Should I give it a go before I start loading other security programs or should I ditch it straight away?

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

Try not to use any free trial software because once the 3 months is up you will have to uninstall it, and configure something else. It would probably be much easier to get everything you are going to use permanently or for the near future configured ready.

I've never had any experience with Bullguard but it sounds like it's similar to Norton or McAfee which can cause problems removing. If you uninstall it before you delete it, you won't run into problems later either.

    Hope this helps :)
