Reclaiming bank charges under 'financial hardship'

Due to the contract ending in my previous job, i have been experiencing money troubles. I have just about kept my head above the water, but i went over my overdraft by about 4 quid for 24 hours, incuring a charge of 50 pounds. I explained my situation to my bank, and the only thing they were concerned about was whether i could pay my loan, rather than helping me out by not ripping me off 50 quid. So, they will not cancel the charges and the charges are due to be applied in a few days (i can not afford this month)

I do not know if they will delay the charges a month, but I doubt it. What would be your recommendation on reclaiming bankcharges, and how would you prove financial hardship? does this effect your future credit rating?

Cheers for your time :-)

If they won't refund I would start the process of reclaiming. If you have had any charges in the past you can go back to 27th July 2001 to present day so that £50.00 might cost them a lot more ;)
If this was the first time then I would escalate it to their head office if you have never had a charge before.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

The first time in over a year and a half. Only gone overdrawn by a short amount twice in my life.

Well, predictably, they will not delay the bank charges, which will nearly put me into my overdraft again (being saved my the parents). They are just not interested, they dont care. I never authorised them to allow me go into a 'informal' overdraft, i would of been better off paying the 25 pound fee from my loan company rather than there 50 quid charge.

They ask me if its because of not being able to pay my creditors, so to save the lecture of how to manage my money again, i said that i can, its just that i have been in a sticky situation and the bank charges are what is causing a big problem, as well as now only being part time.

I have to tried to negotiate with them, then i moved on to say that i will be looking to claim under financial hardship, which they claim i can not do unless i can show i am not paying my financial commitments (loan is what put me over the overdraft limit, but i moved money from the remainder of my other overdraft) .

Basically, im screwed. But I will fight for the money back anyway, and the bank charges from last year (100 pounds). Funny enough i cant close my account out of anger because i would have to repay my loan as well. They have got me by the balls. No leinancy, only an apology that they can not help me.

I presume this will be a long battle when it comes to reclaiming.
