Hi guys, got an update. The manager called me today to say the watch had been returned to the store with a note from Seiko stating that they are not responsible for the damage and therefore not paying for it. The manager was actually very nice and I mentioned the fact that if the scratches were there when the watch was first checked in then the assistant would have entered it on the system. He agreed and said that as a will of good gesture he would send it off to a different watch company to replace the screen at no cost to me at all. He was very helpfull and I'm pleased that something is being done and that I dont have to fight it out. Hopefully this story has a happy ending and the watch comes back from the other repair place in one piece and no more damage to other bits.

Thank you all for your advise and help with my problem.

Glad you appear to have got the situation more or less sorted :)
