Why do we not get Dave, Five USA, Fiver, & Virgin on Freesat when they are free on Freeview ?

Its to do with copyright issues. If they transmit those channels on Freesat they would be able to pick them up in europe and the licensing deals would not cover that. Those channels are encypted on Sky
Thats why I went freeview. Doesnt help those in non freeview areas though0 -
Often it down to licences as mentioned above satelittle can cover a bigger area and some companies dont like to give it for free or program makers object.
Freesat is way to go even just for BBC HD and ITV HD is coming as a channel at end of year currently its not strictly a channel and only shows off odd film0 -

Totally agree. When I left sky last year I did lots of research and as far as I am concerned Freeview is the way to go. Sadly there are still quite a few major areas that cant get it. Parts of Hampshire and Dorset spring to mind.0 -
I went to cornwall over week and we lost freeview part way through week for a day and then analogue all together but freeview came back on following day
I am hoping freeview goes h.264 at some point and get more hd channels hopefully then0 -

Possibly because, I think, some areas of Cornwall are in the middle of switchover.
Further north,in Devon, we've already switched.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Yes I knew that but thanks0

Nor Dave ja vu.
I agree, I have both Freesat and Freeview, Freeview certainly has the best channel line up.
If Freesat doesn't soon improve, it will fail IMO.
We got Freesat installed the other week and it is a big disappointment. BBC HD is absolutely stunning, but ITV HD is practically non existent, and CH4 HD is only on Sky. Hopefully it will improve0 -
ITV HD is coming as it own channel later this year
WE could do with at least another HD channel on freesat and I believe they are trying to do this0 -
I'm not going to get it until you early adopters stop moaning about it
