Computer is whirring very loudly.Help please.

Hi all.I've noticed that my desktop is whirring very loudly when I open new programs or doing lots of things on my computer. There is nothing wrong with the computer at all,but it just sounds like it's working very very hard to do its job. When I got the desktop it never made that sound. What could be wrong with it?Does it need a good clean out inside?Or is it something else? Thanks.Josh

  • get a can of air, take the PC outside, remove the side and spray-away.

Far better done with a compressor, but make sure you prevent fans from spinning if you do (as I learnt :( )

  • Make sure there's no cr*p on the fan(s). My partner works in IT and he's often cleaning out his computer. The amount of people who give him their PC and it's a dusty mess is crazy - he always cleans it for them bless (wish he was so clean around the house )

The whirring will be the fans - as already posted get the thing cleaned out with air and see if that quietens things.

The bearing in a fan in the power supply is the most likely candidate. Try taking the side of the case off and having a listen.
  • defn. sounds like the processor fan.

it would have a thermostat near by, when the temp goes up , the fan spins faster/louder to try and keep the temp down.

Open up the computer (while its not on) and get the hoover to it.
