Error message on Asus EEE netbook startup

Couldn't get it all down as it disappeared too quickly, but on re-starting my netbook just now I got a message ending with ... "Please check the dcopserver program is running".

It seemed to take ages to find any network connections, but did eventually, and despite flashing several warnings it has let me in.

Any idea what it's trying to tell me? I'll try to get the rest of the message if it flashes up again.

Also having trouble with my scroll bar, which is why I was re-starting. It wouldn't let me get to the bottom of the page. Think that might be sorted now.

I reckon you'd be best off asking this on one of the EEE-specific user forums.

A general search suggests that it's a problem with permissions or possibly file corruption, and there are plenty of other people who have seen it.

There are some suggested solutions such as this:

It's probably related, but the symptoms don't exactly match what you are seeing.

BTW, if you are not familiar with linux notation, ~/.filename means a hidden file with name filename in your home directory, which should be /home/<yourusername>/ in most distros.

Thanks for the research, I appreciate it. The last bit is over my untechie head I'm afraid but I will certainly check out the link, and do a bit of Google research myself.
