Hi, i wonder if i could pester the experts for some advice. I have put an sewing machine on e-bay today and have had a message asking what the lowest offer i would take, by some who lives close by so able to pick up avoiding £20 odd in postage costs and hassle.
Trouble is i've seen some machine go for £150 and other not sold or only £15-20. So i'm not sure what bracket it would fall into.
I would prob be happy to except £20 but the bidder has no feedback, positive or negative and has been a member since july 09. Does this sound a fishy to you?

Doesn't sound fishy at all...plus if they are collecting mark it as item picked up no postage then they can't scam you for item not delivered or better still cash on delivery. However £20 is way too low, do u have many watchers?Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

Well it depends on the make and type of machine as well as condition, are you looking at items ended which are exactly the same as yours? If you feel uncomfortable or think it might go for more, or you prefer not to try some guesswork with a BIN, just politely email that you would prefer the auction to run.0

The reason why some don't sell can be purely down to ending time.....summer is notoriousluy bad time for selling it only takes a hot day and everyone is out enjoying the sunshine....I learned this the hard way. Avoid weekends and list as its getting dark about 8 p.mNever put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

This sounds like the well known eBay "second hand sewing machine" scam to me. Beware.0

Unless they pay by Paypal when you will still need a tracking number to fight an Item Not Received dispute.
Misinformation is helpful to noone. I really wish people wouldn't spout pure rubbish in an authoratitive fashion when they don't know what they are talking about. At least add a disclaimer like "as far as I know" or something unless you are utterly positive that your information is correct.
OP, try and arrange cash on collection. £20 may or may not be a good price. You'd have to know how much your particular make and model tend to go for.0 -
If its only been listed a day I would wait and see what other interest that you have0
