Where to stay and what to do in Chicago

Hello there,

I am going Chicago for a few days in May and have been looking on the net for somewhere to stay but can only really find v.expensive hotels. Does anyone know of a decent B&B or hostel that is in the City Centre or close to the major attractions.

Also, as I'm only there for a couple of days what are the best things to see.

Thanks. Stu.

  • Not sure what your budget is but you could try the red roof inn on ontario street. Usually around $100 a night

In terms of what to see - i'd go up the John Hancock Tower. If you are interested in the architecture/history of the city there are a number of walking/boat tours - checkout http://www.architecture.org/cac.html for information. For something free there is also a lot of public art around the city - millenium park is a good place to start for a walking tour

There is also a Gangsters tour round the city - think it was called untouchable tours from memory.

For a good breakfast you could try lou mitchells on Jackson Blvd.

There are a few Chicago hotels on https://www.venere.com - check out: http://en.venere.com/hotels_chicago/

Don't know if any of these are suitable for you, but I've found this site to be really good, with useful maps and reviews, and reasonable prices. And for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W

    Hope that helps

I've just come back from there last week.

Regarding hotels, as mentioned, Red Roof Inn is in a perfect location.
Other hotels to try are Best Western Inn Of Chicago.

The other option is to stay along the Gold Coast, a few miles north of Chicago.

    What to do:
Well, Chicago is a big big city!
If your there for a few days, I'd recommend going up Sears Tower on the day and John Hancock Tower on the night - views are awesome!

Navy Pier is also a very funky place to visit.
There is also the Aquarium, Science Museum, Planetarium and lots of shops in Chicago.

There are trips to a big Outlet mall that run as well.
    Try https://www.viator.com for trips.

Another good tip is seeing Chicago on a segway.

If clubbing, I'd suggest Excalibur on Ontario St.
Awesome, it has 3 floors. Games/pool etc downstairs, club in the middle and dance floors upstairs.
