Barclays have manged to reduce me to tears I'm so fed up.

I decided to take them on and not accept the offer of half. So off they go with all the nastyness. They state that the OFT was only talking about late payment charges on credit cards and all other charges stand. Also that its fair for them to charge £40 a time in charges, they go on to say 'I trust this clarifies this for you' (like hell it does).
Itr jibbers on about their 'gesture of goodwill' of offering 50%. I want to throttle them. After reading this letter I phoned them and they basically insinuted that I was a bit thick and didn't understant what i was talking about. When I said the call was recorded at my end she took the huff and slammed the phone down.
Oh yes and to top things off the accidently got my name wrong on the letter so I have to go down to the bank and sort that out too. The sooner I escape them the better but I have to wait to years or pay them £600 for the privilage of leaving.
The most annoying thing is I am over a month ahead and by the end of May it will be a full two months ahead. How does that make me a bad customer. Rant over hope it makes sense.

    BH, they are talking !!!!!!.

they are stalling you my love. Proceed as normal, you'll get what you deserve.

Wipe the tears away, and fight on. You'll get it.

There may also be grounds for you to get some comeback on the fact that whichever muppet was on the phone to you lied to you, and maybe a letter to the banking ombudsman might be in order.

If anyones thick its them, they have told you the wrong stuff. Goodwill or not, its your money, you are entitled to it back

Chin up, and lets see that fighting spirit we know youve got there

    Lots of love

Hang in there BH. They train their people to be chancers because sometimes it works. Don't be one of the ones it works on. If they were truly in the right, there would be no 'good will gesture' in the first place!

Yep Barclays are good at their job when it comes to keeping money in their pockets. I knew they would be a nightmare thats why I tried so hard to be happy with half anyway going to have a cup of tea and put this pent up energy into scrubbing the floor.

And also to say, dont give them the opportunity to speak to you. Hard as it is, dont discuss it in branch, dont get into phone conversations, unless you are recording it ( adn youve told them)

If they phone you, the first thing to say, is by correspondence only. I did it this morning, until the woman interjected adn told me shes paying me my money back, I was like great, can you put that in writing for me today.

You need all correspondence. HAve you got it in writing its a "goodwill gesture" that wont go down well in court will it :)

Don't worry BH, they are in the wrong and they know it. You WILL get 100% of the money.

Whilst not defending them, (I cannot believe the way that the woman on the phone spoke to you!) the recent OFT ruling WAS just in relation to credit card charges as far as I know, so that isn't strictly speaking an untruth on their part. That is not to say that the charges on current accounts etc are fair though!

How long did you give them in your letter before action? I would now write to them today, and send it recorded, saying that as they have made it clear that they are unwilling to repay the full amount amicably, you will be proceeding with court action immediately. Then I'd file the claim, and sting them for 8% interest and court costs on top ;)

I got letters all the way through from my bank (not Barclays) saying that they believed their charges were fair etc, and then, 4 days after I submitted the claim online, I got a letter from their solicitors, offering me full settlement (inc interest & court fees - it came to over £2.5k!) They KNOW they're wrong - they are just hoping that you will cave in and not take it all the way!

awwwwww :grouphug: I HATE BARCLAYS - THEY ARE THE ONLY BANK THAT HAVE EVER MANAGED TO REDUCED ME TO TEARS

Go for the lot - do not speak to them directly - go to the BAG website and if you dont want to put it on a thread there PM one of the moderators ( they would love this one ) do not pay them £600.00 to leave - take back the money that they owe you and stole from you. Make them pay you to leave. I am so mad that they have treated you like this.

    Good luck hun
