cheers for that JohalaReewi, i might give that a bash.
Is nochex popular with others on ebay? Have you used it or ever expirienced people not wanting to pay via nochex because they've never heard of it?

I think I offered it for about 2 or 3 years and it was used about 4 times in total. I now don't offer it at all and have closed my account.

It runs the same as paypal but is a fraction cheaper and they no longer guarantee no chargebacks, and as I have a very high proportion of overseas buyers it didn't really help me much as basic accounts were UK based only.

Hi all, i've only just started seeling stuff on ebay and have just sold a pair trainers. The buyer has paid through paypal, so when I log in to paypal and choose to accept payment, i get a page displaying the following....

"The ability to accept credit or debit card funded payments is reserved for Premier and Business accounts. To accept this Pending payment, please upgrade your account now.

If you upgrade your account, you will receive a range of premium features in addition to the ability to accept unlimited credit or debit card payments. The fees on incoming payments are low - just 3.4% + £0.20 GBP to receive payments. If you refuse this Pending payment, you may continue to receive money from PayPal members who use a bank account or their PayPal balance to fund the payment. To continue to receive payments for free, make sure that the people who pay you fund their payments with their PayPal balance or with a bank account."

Now I dont know much about using paypal, but am I right in thinking...

    1. that as the buyer has tried pay via debit/credit card through paypal, i am only able to accept the payment if i upgrade my paypal account and pay the extra paypal charges.

    2. However, if i dont want to upgrade my account, I will have refuse the payment and ask the buyer to use their bank account or their PayPal balance to fund the payment.

    3. In future auctions, would I be able to state in the item desctription that buyer will have to pay for the cost incurred to me for me to have the ability to recieve credit/debit card payments, or is there any way around this?

This is probably very obvious, but i'm new to all this so im not too sure what i am doing. If you are still reading this - well done for staying awake! your advise would be much appreciated....

    Many thanks
    Munky

I don't agree with the answers you've been given here - I have a personal account with paypal on ebay. I have never been asked to upgrade to a business or premier account and I have over 500 feedback and regularly receive paypal payments - when my paypal score reached around 100 as an unverified member I couldn't receive any more payments without getting verified, which I have duly done. I also buy things through my paypal account using my credit card and I have NEVER been asked to upgrade to a business or premier account. Try emailing paypal to clarify the answers to your questions.

A basic account can only take payment via a paypal balance or an echeque, have you really never taken payment any other way or ever had a paypal fee taken from your paypal payments?

Yes I do pay paypal charges - 20p plus 4% on each transaction when I am receiving monies for goods purchased on ebay, but I have certainly used paypal without any balance in my paypal account to purchase goods. Paypal would pay for my purchase and debit my credit card with the amount at no charge to me. I am now verified, but that was when I was unverified too.

That's where the muddle is then you do have a premier account not a basic account, verification has nothing to do with it.

There are 3 types of paypal account, basic that can be used as a buyer and can also accept payments in from paypal balances of echeques, a premier account that for payment is the same as the basic acocunt but can be used as a seller as all types of paypal payments can be taken and a business which as it suggests is for business customers.

I have had payments in via nochecx and made payments via nochex and yes, it is a novel experience for both parties but it does work and is relatively painless. I have yet to use the new nochex ebay checkout feature, but feedback on the nochex forum is good and I can see it making things easier. OK not as easy as Ebay putting a "pay now by nochex" tick box on their website!! It is just like Paypal used to be like before they were swallowed up by Ebay. One attraction of nochex is that (under £100) the buyer can just pay by credit card without opening a nochex account. I have had buyers who didn't want to (or couldn't) sign up to a Paypal account so they couldn't pay me that way. It is certainly handy having both nochex and paypal if you are selling.
