When buying fresh food suitable for home freezing, do you ignore the guidelines that state use within 1 month if frozen:

Same as Best Before's in my opinion. Provided it stays frozen solid and at a safe temperature the whole time the chances of something going off in a way that will be unpleasant or unhealthy over say...6 months, are fairly slim.
Probably depends what it is though and I think a lot of it has to do with how quickly it freezes and defrosts (Since it is the ice crystals that damage the organic matter in your food)
I ate some brazing steak that had been in the freezer since February last week :eek: and it smelt fine, tasted fine, and cooked fine. It was just for a slow cooked stew though, probably wouldn't do that with prime cuts of meat for a nice roast.0 -
The only problem you might have is freezer burn or a little loss of taste, but it will still be okay to eat. I have done it many times and if it is a best before date you can get away with it easily.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
