gas leak in my flat

I had some new pipes put in outside (gas) as we had a gas leak outside. when the guys came to reconnect our gas they noticed we had a gas leak near my cooker my flat is rented i know it is down to the landlord to correct this but shouldnt he off checked it before we moved in?

How long ago did you move in? Maybe he did check and the leak has appeared since?
