I only have one rule of budgetting......

    - Be realistic!

Sadly, I break that rule every time :o

  • It was a really interesting (and short) podcast - seems to fit with my experience.

In summary, budgets are good to get your finances into shape, but once your budget is established they are of less use as they just reflect your current spending 'habits'.

So it's better to think of goals and lifestyle choices than religiously keep your budget spreadsheet updated. Suits me.

As for being realistic, hypno - me? realistic? never!!! :)

  • Went for a 5K run (walk) last night - the first for a long time. Didn't go too badly considering, so will keep up the training and aim for a race-date towards the end of the year.

My mum popped round yesterday with a lovely cheque to help towards the wedding, so banked that straight-away - it really will help. People have been very generous which has been great. Not long now 'til the big day...

Doing some general background reading at the moment to get back into my MSE ways - also working out some short, medium and long-term goals. I'll post them up here as that seems to work.

  • Had a family and friends over for a pre-wedding barbecue yesterday - the sun shone, the drinks flowed and the food, erm fed? It all went really well and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.

Was invited to a game of golf, but I haven't even touched a club for about 25 years, so not sure as to try and get some lessons in beforehand or decline the offer. Could be good way to meet some new people, but I don't really need a new expensive hobby. Or rather, if I'm going to have a new expensive hobby I plan to combine sailing and skiing (though not at the same time).

Less than two weeks until we get married, but everything going reasonably to plan! Nearly out of money for now, but next year should be able to start saving and getting into MFW properly. OH is busting her debts on the snowballer and some of her fixed payment loans end over the next couple of months. Maybe I will be able to start my expensive hobbies sometime soon after-all... ;)

This week got to make sure I have enough put by for direct debits especially the council tax which has been recalculated as I gave them an incorrect sort code for some reason. I also need to look into switching 'energy' supplier as my price cap ends in December, which isn't far off now.

  • Hurrah - a long weekend. I haven't really planned much to do, but if the weather's good I'll have a go at tidying the front and back gardens (he says ;) )

I don't think my sailing skills will get me going fast enough, but if you fancy being on your skis on the end of a rope hypno, then let's give it a go :)

I need to teach my mum on how to look at toys before she buys them to check the age suitability. I think this is the third thing she has given us that isn't suitable for under-3's. Luckily we have the receipt, but it's always a bit sad taking back a present I think. Makes one look a bit ungrateful.

Kinda tired this morning, so hopefully energy levels will rise sometime soon so I can actually start getting some things done... feeling a bit lazy at the moment... might just have a lie-down...

I hope that the blue light means that you are out digging the gardens, not having a nap

    Are you getting excited?
