  • To clear up any confusion:

    I can't find the original promotion page but if this item were silver I'd probably have remembered. Based on this and the fact I can find no mention, I would assume that this piece is made of Cupronickel (same as 5p 10p 20p 25p 50p and £5 coins) and not silver.

    Cupronickel as a metal is worthless and always will be, the only value this item has is as a collectible on its own. With a reasonably high mintage and the fact it was free, the only people who are ever going to want these are those who really like Minis and missed out on the offer.

    It's a nice wee thing to keep hold of, and great to give to the kids. If you have no real interest in it and someone offers you a quid or two for it then take it! :rotfl:

    Most of the items the Royal Mint sell will never make you a profit so only buy them if you like them as a piece. The (very overpriced) precious metal pieces may rise in value but there are much better ways to invest your money.

    That all said, if they are made of silver It'll be a nice surprise for me! Though it will still be worth less than 40p in silver! :rotfl:
