Cost of running the oven for baking?
Seriously geeky of me I know, but how much do you think it costs in electricity to run the oven for an hour (20mins warm up, 40mins cooking time)?
A lot of friends have been encouraging me to set up a little baking enterprise from home, but I don't have any idea how much it costs to power the electrical things and therefore whether it would be at all viable.

There are several threads just like this over on the Gas and Electricity board
I'll move this over so that the experts there can help you out.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. :rotfl:
It also states that a computer consumes 1kWh and that a digibox or a cable box consumes 90W which is absolute rubbish! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks so much for the help guys.
So, about 3 kw/h.... better google for how much a kw/h costs now! Haven't actually had my own electric bill for well over a year now.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

The oven may have an element of 3kw, although some modern ones may be as low as 2.3 kw. But the element is not consuming electricity for the whole hour because the thermostat will switch it off and on to maintain the set temperature. As a rough guide (and this will depend on the temerature set) my oven takes about 10 minutes to warm up so it is using full power for that amount of time, then the thermostat cycle will have it on for about half the remaining time.0
