Recovery of late payment charges for closed accounts

Hi,
I intend embarking on the process to recover bank charges and late credit card payment charges. I do have a query though.
My Wife had a credit a/c with GE Capital and missed some payments and was duly charged for doing so. She has since cleared the balance & closed the account. The account dates back beyond 6 years & my question is this:-
1. Is it still possible to pursue the recovery of late payment charges for a credit account that has been closed approx 2 years ago?
I don't mean to sound mercenary about it, but if there is an entitlement, it would be nice to know.
Thank you in advance for assisting.

I have a related question: can they subsequently choose to ruin your credit rating for whatever reason if you try this?Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
