Installing Ubuntu on eeePC 900

I have an eeePC 900 running Linux. I recently bought a T Mobile PAYG mobile broadband (USB 120) which is not being recognized by Linux. I spoke with T Mobile technical staff who advised that I should change to Ubuntu for my O/S as this will recognise the usb dongle. Having looked on the net, I am struggling to understand how best to download and set up Ubuntu. The easy guides don't seem very easy!!

Download the desktop ISO file and burn to a 700-800MB cd.

You just need to make sure you backup any important data you have etc as no doubt the disk will get formatted during install.
Insert the newly burnt cd into laptop, reboot, it should go to menu option - Install or run as Live CD - choose Install.
ALTERNATIVELY
If you have a usb pen drive with over 700MB free storage space - then download this http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ (Linux version) and just follow the instructions.0
