Barclays & nationwide £400 overdwarn

First of all i had a direct debit setup by shop direct who i had cancled the direct debit with and they sent me a letter out in wrighting saying the direct debits had been stopped. So i though that was the end of the direct debits on my nationwide account
but boy was i wrong. A few months later i started getting calls from nationwide saying i owned them £290 in banking charges for unauthrized direct debits
Since then it seems to go up and up This month iv been charged £82.56 in fees for nationwide. The od £2.56 is interest and it keeps going up.
I am out of work due to health problems and i am on benefits now
Nationwide wont help what so ever instead they hound me twice a day over the phone. I requested that they stop calling me they even said they would not call me any more but yet still the calls come.
Before this happened my bank account was in credit of atleast £35 which i doubt i will ever see again.
I see the section saying that i can claim banking charges back but how can you claim them back when you cant afford too pay the banking charges?.
Barclays is another matter i got charged £26 for being overdrawn on a unauthorized transation from usenext i had cancled a membership with them but they tried to take money from my account. I contacted barclays fraud department who said they would send me a claim form out but it never came i rang them up requested again but no form came. A few days ago i got a letter saying my bank accounts been closed and they demanded i pay £26 banking fees.
Under the law i believe they could not close your account like this.
I am pist because its left me without a bank account.
If i pushed i could pay it by march but those charges are unfair and where due to no fault of my own. I had it in wrighting that the direct debits where stopped so what else could i have done.

Were the charges incurred because shop direct hadnt actually cancelled the direct debit ? Are they still trying to take the DD ?
You can claim back bank charges whether you have paid them or not, they will simply come off any debt you owe to the bank in that instance.LegalBeagles0 -

Yes and shop direct say they will sort it out if i had proof which i dont because most letters i get i do not keep i read them and then shred them if i do not think i will need them.
I was looking at the template letters but i just thought they where for claiming back charges that you already paid. Iv contacted nationwide who say they wont do anything until the bank court case thing is over.
I have threatened them with legal action adn their attitude is "Well Ok you do that".
I believe i have a stong rights violation case against them along with harrasment because the phone calls still come in even after nationwide closes. Iv had calls as late as 8pm at night.:A0 -
The test case does mean they dont have to deal with your complaint until its all resolved.
You need to send the bank a subject access request to get your old statements then you can get your money back from shop direct and they might payback your charges.
If they dont get your claim into Nationwide. When you do you can also tell them that the account is formally in dispute and they shouldnt chase you for the debt until its sorted. You can also send them a telephone harrassment letter asking them to contact you only in writing.
