Student loan a mess

the Revenue end being rubbish wouldn't surprise in the slightest either
they're managed to get me and my brother's NI number mixed up!0 -
Even if it is the HMRC causing the problems, the SLC should get on to them to sort it out. 'We' shouldn't have to chase around between them sorting it out0

I think this is a common factor of all those who have had problems are posting and this is why it looks so bad. I have myself not had a statement for a couple of years and do not earn enough to makr repayments through the inland revenue. Last year I sent them a letter to change my address. A couple of weeks ago I called them up and got my outstanding balance there and then (said it wouldn't include any payments, but not made any so didn't matter). Also they had changed my address. They told me that they can only send out statements once the inland revenue have passed on all the files in April (end of tax year) and by the time they have updated everything it could be nearer October before they are sent out. I'm not holding my breath for a statement but I now know what I owe anyway. And when I do start to make repayments through my earnings I will know how much I have paid from my P60 every year.0

The SLC is a total shambles, no doubt about that. I paid off my loan as soon as I could as I simply didnt want to have anything more to do with them, cheap loan or no.
Both my partner and I had repeated mistakes on our accounts that took repeated attempts to sort out. One week they say its fine and fixed, the next you get a scary letter demanding money you dont owe. The odd mistake I can accept, if it gets fixed. But when it kept going wrong at every level with the same mistakes coming up repeatedly along with new ones then it became totally unacceptable.
I never got an apology or response to my complaints.
They are awful and a total disgrace, how they are allowed to continue is beyond me. You have my every sympathy. Id get saving and pay off in one lump sum asap (assuming they still let you). Amazingly my account got closed down without a problem, I hope to never deal with them again.Debt: a bloomin big mortgage

I can't believe how inept they are. I would get calls on the same day and they'd have no idea that I'd spoken to anyone. Their "super-upto-date tracking system that lets us know as soon as a letter arrives", must be imaginary.
They STILL send letters to an old address. I've moved twice since, and informed them 5 or 6 times.
they send me two letters for one account, and ignore another loan I have. I've told them this, but they seem unaware. I'm hoping I'll just not pay that one, sincethey don't seem to think it exists.
There must be some kind of regulations binding them, and if anyone knows, please tell me. They have caused me so much stress over the last few years, I just want to cause some back.
oh, and they will take loans back after they've passed them to debt collectors. They've done it twice for me. But they won't do it if it goes to Smith Lawson, which if you look closely, is actually just another name for them.
record EVERYTHING you have to do with them.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

If you take out loans for tuition fees and cost of living and put it in a high interest account, can you pay off both loans after graduating and avoid the SLC? or does the money have to come out of earnings at source.0
-
A tuition fee loan is paid directly from SLC to the institution for your fees, so a student wouldn't actually "see" the money from that element of the loan.
You can pay off the whole loan when you graduate, but you will be paying the money back to SLC who will hold the loan contract.0
