Rental property relisted after we have paid a holding deposit

I recently saw I house I want to rent, viewed it twice, sent in all application forms/documents/proof of id they want and paid a £200 holding deposit. The letting agent then removed the property from Rightmove.
My application is currently being checked by Maras, and was only entered into their system yesterday.
Today the property has been put back on Rightmove along with several new photos, including some I know where taked AFTER we paid the holding deposit (a bathroom we asked to have painted has been painted and new photos taken).
Surely they can't do that if I have paid a deposit on the flat? I'm really worried and don't know what to do!

If it's a nice property they may just be using it to get interested people through the door. I know 2 years ago when I was looking for property there were many agents that would ignore my queries on a property to only come back a few days/week later saying 'oh we've got this property if you're interested?'0

To operate as a letting agent you need no training, no qualifications, no registration, not to be a member of a trade body or, indeed, have pleasant personal hygiene...
There are good agents (I have one... thanks guys!): There are some so-so: There are quite a few I wouldnae trust further than I could throw them, and I have a bad back...
Cheers!

Have you rung the agent and asked them ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

This may be an obvious question but is it back on Rightmove with the SAME agent?

do you think there's any possibility that you could have failed the credit check?0

The letting agent can argue until your credit check is passed and you have paid the deposit the flat is still available.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Imp booked to view a few rented properties a couple of years ago when he moved down south. They were nice looking houses, with a bit of character and very little magnolia. He turned up and the letting agent said "Oh, well we can't see that one, but here's some other ones for you to look at" and showed him some beige flats (beige walls, carpet, furniture, tiles, cupboards etc). So if it's a nice property, it could just be a ploy to lure people in.0

Thanks for all the replies. I'm really hoping it's just to lure other customers in as some of you have suggested. It's definately the same agent. I'm pretty sure the reference/credit checks haven't been done yet as they only put it onto the Maras system over the weekend.
I'm just a bit mad that we were made to pay a £200 deposit so that they would take it off sale, and then they go and relist it, its making me nervous!2022 wins: PS5 bundle, SSD drive, luxury truffles
