Logitech ClearChat Style Skype headset- mic problems

Hello,
I'd be very grateful for any advice...
I've just bought a Logitech ClearChat Style headset to use for Skype.
The headphones are working and I can hear my voice via the microphone through the headset.
However, when I use the sound recorder on the pc nothing plays back.
Also, when I use the Echo123 test facility on Skype, only about 3 seconds of the test message I record plays back. I'm guessing the issue is with the mic.
Any help gratefully received.
