I'm laying oak flooring in our bedroom but have had conflicting advice as to whether or not I need underlay.
It's going on chipboard floorboards and I plan to secret nail it, can anyone offer a third opinion?
Thanks

You don't need underlay. However if you think you may have a problem with moisture (I don't think you would) it may pay you to lay down some Building Paper.0

Insulation for soild oak should be for 'sound' insulation to reduce noise to lower floors. As the boards are normally fixed to the existing floor via hidden nails, the insulaton can be slightly thicker than say foil back or laminate styles. Timberland flooring used a 5mm sound insulation on all upper floor installatons in flats etc: (sorry 'Apartments'.0
